CDL/DOT Physicals

Dr. John Cox is a Nationally Registered Certified Medical Examiner, and is qualified to perform CDL/DOT physical examinations for both commercial driver’s license holders and school bus drivers.

Dr. Cox will make every effort to schedule drivers for their physical examination within a 24-hour time frame. He provides convenient hours at his office that can accommodate most drivers’ schedules.

Commercial Drivers required to have medical clearance: 

FMCSA regulates that interstate commercial vehicle motorist must have a physical exam and carry a medical examiner’s certificate/card when operating a vehicle which GVWR is over 10,000 pounds in interstate.

The Department of Transportation has recognized the following categories of drivers

Class A- Any combination of vehicles with GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.|
Class B- Any single vehicle with GVWR of 26,0001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR.
Class C- Any single vehicle, or combination of vehicles, that does not meet the definition of Class A, or Class B, but is either designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver, or is placarded for hazardous material.

After May 21, 2014 drivers and commercial motorists are required to have CDL/DOT physical examinations performed by providers who are listed on the national registry.

List of current medications
Diabetics need to bring in their most recent A1-C reading CPAP uses need to bring a compliance report

*No caffeine or nicotine 2 hours prior to exam
*Be able to produce a urine sample.
